December Newsletter

As we begin the month of December, lets look at what is going on at CIS.

December 7-11: All 3rd graders will be assessed on their Oral Reading
Fluency during this week. Their goal is to read a total of 92
words per minute correctly and without errors. As of
12/01/09, 86% of our students were reading at or above
this level. It is very important that you let your children
read to you nightly. Thanks for all of your help.

December 9: All students 9 and under who have returned a signed
permission slip will receive the flu "mist" vaccine. However,
those students at risk with conditions such as asthma will
not be able to receive this vaccine. Hopefully, the state will
provide a second dose in January. Also, at that time we are
hoping that those children above 9 will receive the flu shot.

December 15: We will have a Title I Parental Involvement Night at 6:00.
Our 5th grade students will have the program, and we look
forward to seeing them perform.

December 17: This is the last day of school before Christmas Holidays. We
encourage all students to attend every day until the
Holidays begin.

January 6: We look forward to our students returning to school after the
Holidays. Report Cards will be sent home on this day.

I hope everyone has a very blessed and special Christmas.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Now that we are in the month of November, we have several activities going on at CIS.

To start with, our Annual Sale began on November 2 and will end on Tuesday, November 24. Our annuals are $25.00 and will arrive next spring. In order to reserve your annual, please send the appropriate amount by November 24.

Every year at this time, CIS students and staff have a Food Drive for the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center to give to families who need help over the holiday. Our Food Drive will begin on Thursday, November 12 and end on Tuesday, November 24. On that day we will take all of the canned donations to the Assistance Center for them to give to needy families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please help us with this most worthy cause.

Progress Reports will be sent home again on Monday, November 16. We hope everyone has a good report. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child's teachers, please feel free to call the school at 280-2790 to set up a conference time.

The next School Wide Title I Meeting will be on Tuesday, November 17, at 6:00.
Our 3rd grade will present the program. We encourage everyone to attend to enjoy our 3rd grade student's performance.

Thanksgiving Holidays will be November 25, 26, and 27. I wish everyone a special and safe Thanksgiving Day as we give thanks for all that we have been blessed with.

Thank you for your support of CIS and our activities.

I would like to update everyone on coming events at CIS.

To begin with, I would like to thank our local Rotary Club for visiting with our 3rd Grade students last week and presenting each student with their own dictionary. Each year this organization does this and we sincerely appreciate their generosity.

The week of October 26th will be "Red Ribbon Week". The following activities are planned:

Monday, October 26:
"Have the POWER to be Drug Free" - Ask students to wear red to kick off Red Ribbon Week

Tuesday, October 27:
"Drugs give you the Blues" - Ask students to wear blue

Wednesday, October 28:
"Join the fight against Drugs" - Ask students to wear camouflage

Thursday, October 29:
"Be a Hero - Stay Drug Free" - Ask students to dress as a superhero

Friday, October 30:
"Team up against Drugs" - Ask students to wear a team jersey or team colors

We look forward to a great week during "Red Ribbon Week". A special thanks to our counselor, Mrs. Lisa Baker, for coordinating these daily activities.

We will be back again the first week in November for more happenings at CIS.

Welcome to Clanton Intermediate Paws and Claws

Today I began a nine month training program on enhancing the use of technology in school instruction and communication. This will be the first posting for the new Clanton Intermediate Paws and Claws. Hopefully, this we be a tool that can be used for displaying information beneficial to students, parents, and staff members.

At this time, we have Class Pictures recently taken on "Fall Picture Day" that are available for $8.00. If you would like one, please return this amount to your homeroom teacher. If you are paying by check, please make it payable to Bill Miller Photography. An envelope for this was sent home last Friday for your convenience.

Due to the recent demand, another shipment of Student Planners has been received. These planners should help our students be more organized in terms of assignments and time lines for completion of these assignments. The cost is $5.00 with checks payable to CIS. Supplies are limited!!!

Some important events taking place in Septerber are...

September 23

"See You at the Pole" Ceremony Before School and Vision Research Screening for the 4th
Grade provided by the Alabama Department of Health

September 25

Fall Pictures "Make Up" Day

Hope you find this information useful. I will try to provide school information like this every month.
